Frustrated with a lack of results as a teenager, Richard started studying the anatomy of the vocal instrument on his own and reached out to work with world renown vocal teachers in New York City and at the Chautauqua Institute. Building on the knowledge he gained from these teachers and the twenty years experience in the music industry, Richard has been able to bring forth an insightful, positive, and caring teaching style to his students.

Richard is known for his direct-approach instruction that targets awareness and development through specific vocal exercises, understanding, and encouragement. In order to accommodate the individual needs of every student, Richard draws not only from his singing background, but also from his knowledge of nutrition, physical training, acting, directing, producing, and songwriting skills. His unique ability to help artists discover their true voice has led to consulting other vocal coaches whose clients include Virgin, Atlantic, Universal, Warner Bros, and RCA recording artists.

Whether a student comes to Richard to increase their vocal range in a single lesson or work with him for several years to develop to their full potential, he provides them with the tools they need to continue learning on their own. Often, students start out with weekly lessons and return only when having difficulty or need to prepare for an event such as recording an album or touring.
